Hey all,

I know this is probably a dumb topic to post, but for some reason I trust SJ's collective judgment. My electric razor went out after nearly 10 years of perfect service. I'm very happy it lasted so long, but does anybody have a recommendation for a good new one to purchase? I'd like to stay below $100, so again, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Consumer Reports' "Best Buy" is the Remington MicroScreen 500 MS2-390, which goes for about $60. With an overall rating of 80, it is by far the highest-rated electric shaver under $100.

For about $35, you can get the Panasonic ProCurve Double Blade ES4026NC, which has an overall rating of 76.

Thanks for the help! I found it for $47 on Amazon, so that's looking like it might be the winner.

If you have anything more than a wisp for whiskers, I'd advise avoiding the Remingtons.

I returned mine after one month of use because it lacked the ability to provide a clean shave -- always had to follow up with a Bic. The motor was weak and it failed to hold a charge.

My replacement is a Norelco, paid about $120, and so far it's much better.

Gilette Mach 3. Not the ultra, turbo, vibrating, 15-blade model that does your taxes. Just the Mach 3.

Works like a charm (with the shaving gel, of course).

But then again, I only really have to shave twice a week.

This is exactly what I would have written -- minus a quote from Wilson Wilson, of course.

When did I quote Wilson Wilson? No obscure philosphers... nothing about the mating habits of migratory nocturnal insects... what gives?

I wold have added the quote. I still might.

I've tried all kinds of shaving devices over the years and I agree with Doubledown and Mike: you can't beat the Mach 3.

I've had a few electric razors over the years and never liked any of 'em.

And Spnited's suggestion is only semi-facetious: nothing gives a closer shave than a Todd Sweeney special.

Whatever floats your boat. Given your haunting knowledge of all 90's sitcoms and the like, I'm starting to think that Jim Carrey's character in "The Cable Guy" was loosely based on you.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;)

It's funny that you said that, dude. Just yesterday, I found out I live near a Medieval Times restaurant. I took pictures and sent it to my friend. Then I asked him if he wanted Pepsi.

I've had a Mach 3 since it came out about a decade ago (that's a lie; I didn't start shaving regularly until I started college.) But it's close, and if you shave with and against the grain, nothing is smoother.

I have been using the Fusion that has a battery in it and vibrates. Although I'll be damned if I understand what the vibrating function is supposed to accomplish. ... Oh ... Really?

10 years? Wow. I noticed a steep drop in quality in my first electric after about 3. I decided to get another one after deeming that one unsatisfactory, and I think the new one sucks - and it's only been six months.

If my judgment is held true, I'd lose my face after 10 years with the original.
