Easy solution to the whole problem (and I mean Mideast-West relations): pull out all U.S. interests in the entire region, Israel included. If they want to multilate their women, repeal constitutions and bomb each other into oblivion, so be it. In a few years, there should be the means to survive almost oil-free.

Yeah, there's an idea.

I can't wait to visit Tel Aviv after we pull all our support.

Come on, man. ****'s WAY more complicated than that.
Our unfettered support of Israel is the single reason we have been targeted in any terrorist attack.

It is virtually that simple.

I'm sorry, but I think this is incorrect.

OBL targeted us -- and defied the Saudi royal family -- because Westerners occupied Saudi Arabia (home to Mecca and Medina, the two holy sites) during the Gulf War.

Not to mention the problem we should have with where people are going when they try to put all of the blame for terrorists targeting the United States -- this seems to suggest we should bail on an ally out of fear.

Simon, is that what you are suggesting?
Regarding OBL, and the others....

It all stems from the Arab fury toward Israel. They wouldn't give a **** about any occupation by a U.S. presence if they didn't see us "taking sides" in the unholiest of holy wars. To them, in their way of looking at the world, we have been the terrorists for years and years.

There is no answer to remedy this fact, unfortunately. Logic flew the coop many moons ago.

You still didn't answer my question.
yes i did

Not really. You restated your opinion on the subject with some detail.

Unless by that part about there being no remedy means either you think we should maintain our support of Israel....or that it is too late to drop it.

How about a simple yes or no? Should we sever ties with Israel in an attempt to make peace with the terrorists? Follow up the yes or no however you like, but come on....try it...yes or no. :)

The other thing to think about is this - even if we did sever all ties with Israel, would that change anything? I don't think it would. The militants still would find fault in us.

I agree. Plus it would be a sign of weakness at this point.

This issue isn't a Saudi one, it's a Muslim one.

Religion poisons everything once again.
There's no denying that, but at least Christianity has made some progress since their 1900 hundred year reign of terror over the Earth.

From the Spanish Inquisition to the PTL Club is progress?

There is no answer.

Either presents crippling issues.

Now learn to read.

Yes or no? simpleton.

The funniest part of that whole argument is assuming what Osama says is true and using it to bolster your case.

Insults and philosophy, but still no direct answer.

No shock there.

I was thinking more along the lines of from the split of the Roman Empire to Hymietown

Sorry, but we are more then a few years away. Now, if we figure out a way to hit up the green river formation in a cost effective way then at least we can get off foreign oil. Oil is here to stay. Even if we ween our vehicles off of it within 20 years(no way) it is used in way too many other things for us to ever kick the habit completely.
Cars and trucks are not the only users of petroleum. Plastics, of which our society uses a bunch for everything, is made from petroleum.

And you're right. Oil is not going away. If we could just drill in that wasteland up in Alaska that has the greenies up in arms, we could possibly leave the M.E. oil to Europe and Japan.

As for the punishment of that rape victim, that just goes to show you that the "religion of peace" is nothing of the sort. Sharia law is flat-out tyranny.

And Simon has competition for the biggest moron on the thread.

Congrats, Bama.
