Saudi Arabia comedy festival no laughing matter

Anyone giving Bill Burr a seven-figure check to tell jokes is surely funny, for different reasons than he’s thinking.

I've posted other thoughts above. Some of these comics really probably could have afforded to stay home, and others like Louis CK and those grinding out a living on the road, working one night in Saudi Arabia for the takehome of a month of shows on the road in the US? I totally understand it.
And it is always easy to ask others to make sacrifices and take stands in situations like this and ask nothing of ourselves. What are other people, the complainers, doing to combat human rights abuses in Saudi Arabia?

Yes, poor Louis CK. Multi-millionaires need to put food on the table too. It might take him two shows at Madison Square Garden to make the money he made with one show in Saudi Arabia, so might as well take the blood money.

No one's asking them to make a real stand or sacrifice - they are asking highly successful comics not to whitewash the regime that killed an American reporter with a bonesaw. That shouldn't be a big ask. Shane Gillis refused to perform there, for fück's sake. Louis and Bill Burr couldn't meet the moral standard set by Shane Gillis.

I didn't realize CK had been "uncancelled" - figured he might need that kind of gig. And yes, I agree with you. But nobody is shaming me when I fill up at the gas station. I'm not saying it's "OK", and I also think if we as a nation are dependent on stand up comedians to stand up against brutal regimes, they should demand our government do it as well.

Americans have zero moral high ground. Our country is run by a racist convicted felon. The US is blowing up people in boats and sending troops after citizens.
Wait until you find out how the last (functioning) Democratic president killed American citizens.

Also, if you like showing your face in public, you might not find Saudi Arabia to your liking.

Today’s Washington Post would capitulate if Kashoggi was killed now, so perhaps we shouldn’t care as much. /s, I think

Kashoggi would have taken the buyout like most all their reporters, so, see, the slashing of staff at WaPo is not just a cost-cutting but also a life-saving measure!
