Dog sucked up and killed by street sweeping truck

NEW YORK (AP) _ A sanitation sweeping truck roaring down a Bronx street sucked up a dog and killed it as its owner held the leash.
Authorities say Robert Machin had just finished walking the Boston terrier and his other dog and was about to put them into his car when the truck appeared.
The accident happened Thursday morning in the Soundview neighborhood.
The retired transit worker told reporters he was suddenly whipped around and saw his dog pulled into the sweeper.
Machin ran behind the truck for two blocks before he caught up with it. The dog was named Ginger. Its body was later pulled from the sweeper.
Machin said he had adopted Ginger from a shelter as company for his other dog, also a Boston terrier.

Monkey uses garden hose to scale moat, flee zoo

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (AP) _ MacGyver's got nothing on this monkey.
A spider monkey new to the city's Washington Park Zoo used a garden hose to scale the walls of a moat and make a break for freedom.
Workers were cleaning the moat at the time Wednesday. Zoo Director Johnny Martinez says workers had figured the monkeys would remain inside their enclosure during the cleaning even though the moat was empty of water.
However, one monkey made it past the moat, grabbed the hose and jumped onto the roof of a water filtration plant.
The zoo staff recaptured the adventurous monkey at a nearby boat dealership, where they found it perched atop a white and blue speedboat.
Martinez says the freedom-seeking monkey is sociable and was not any danger to people

What's your odd story today?

The East All-Stars are about to wipe the floor with the Senators. But I've got a feeling that's not going to top the spider monkey.

The see shiny metal as a sign of dominance, so I've been told.
