I swear, we need one. Why the hell does this place drive so many people ****ing loony-tunes?

5 adults arrested after assaulting police at Chuck E. Cheese

Police in Everett, Massachusetts say they responded Saturday to reports of adults drinking alcohol, which is prohibited at the family-oriented restaurant.

I admit I haven't darkened the door of a Chuck E. Cheese in about 20 years, but don't they sell beer at some locations? I remember hearing that and being surprised by that.

Wasn't it just ... yesterday? ... that CEC made a big announcement regarding its setting aside one day a month for those kids with sensory issues (e.g., autism)?

The only thing worse than a Chuck E. Cheese is a knock-off Chuck E. Cheese. Parties at Razzmatazz and Major Magic littered my childhood. The pizza was terrible, the children acted like tiny Russian mobsters in the ball pit and the parents acted like children. Good times!

Elder DaughterQuant worked at the CEC down the way for a year or so. She had lots of kinda downer stories of the usual scenarios. The single mom digging to her last penny to pay for the party. The father of the kid (who's never around) showing up with his new gal and their new kids. Aunts/uncles/cousins showing up unexpectedly and blowing the budget. For every good story she had -- like the grandmother who gave her a $100 (cash) tip -- she had multiple depressing ones.

I'd rather clean the grease traps at Kentucky Fried Chicken for a year than work at Chuck E. Cheese for one day.

My wife says I'll relent and take our oldest daughter to CEC. My wife is wrong.

Stand your ground.

Why not take them to Dave and Buster's instead. The kid or kids can play the games, while Dad drinks.

D&B's isn't about to put up with the **** that ol' Charles Queso does, especially for the low prices.

When my children were children's party age, we had options they liked better. An indoor complex for outdoor sports (batting cages, indoor soccer, etc.) that had video games and let you cater for yourself and the local town skating rink. We used those. Also, there's an Italian restaurant in the town center that is very family-friendly, has pizza, and lets adults BYOB. We were lucky.

If you've ever been in one you would never ask that question.

Yup. My kids are adults now, but I attended way too many Chuck E. Cheese birthday parties, often too early on a Saturday or Sunday, when I was just a little hung over. These places are loud and overstimulating with bells and buzzers and flashing lights, plus screaming, sugared up kids running around in all directions. I'm always amazed no kid has ever been "accidentally" killed with a whack-a-mole mallet.

I'm really thankful that my granddaughter seems to prefer non-food places like Gymboree. She be lovin' ball pits at 3.
