So, where does Spencer Rattler end up?

Arizona native. Arizona needs a QB, ASU doesn't. I think DRT is done at UCLA so that might be a fit.

Oregon is also a definite possibility, he fits the profile, they love transfer QBs (Adams, Prukop, Johnson). For all the hype freshman Ty Thompson got, he barely played.

Fresno is one of those places that has a perpetual chip on its shoulder, the little guy taking on the big boys. Athletically, it reached its height in 1992 when Trent Dilfer and co. beat USC in the Freedom Bowl. Pat Hill kept the spirit alive with his "anyone, anywhere, anytime" approach to body bag games. But unlike the SEC, it can be a frontrunning town. And they express their feelings with empty seats.

Had some experience with this about 10 years ago. One of the top women's basketball players in our area got a scholarship to play at Fresno State. Had a good freshman season, named to the WAC all-frosh team, the 'Dogs won the WAC tourney and got knocked out of the first round of the NCAA tourney. But between her freshman and sophomore years, her coach took the gig at Ole Miss, and the new coach's approach didn't fit her game at all. So at he last possible moment, she withdrew and transferred to the local juco, from whence she went on to Pacific. Of course we covered it, and when a couple of comments on our boards started calling her disloyal, I had to make a rare appearance there to set a couple of posters straight. Our paper's marketing manager, who had been a D-1 softball player, jumped in as well explaining how scholarships work.

Is anyone surprised? Freshman shows up in a program with another highly regarded freshman QB, who plays great. Why did Ohio State take him in the first place? And why did anybody make an NIL deal with him?

Rattler is a tricky one. I suspect he thought he was going to walk into the job at ASU and then Daniels announced he's coming back.

His situation is complicated by two things: he isn't nearly as good as his billing and he's a giant asshole, according to those who have been around him going back to high school.

It won't be Oregon. You can't recruit the top high school QB in the country, make him sit a year, and then bring in a mediocre big-name transfer. For a number of reasons, they have to go with Thompson.

Going to Arizona would be an acknowledgement of total failure. Not sure where that leaves him. UCLA if DTR is gone? Fresno State? Fighting for the ASU job? Don't know. I think I'd bet on ASU, and I don't think it's a good idea.

Technically, he was supposed be a high school senior this year, so he would be a class behind, and then if you throw in a redshirt he could sit behind Stroud for just a season and then have three years to start himself.

He decided to graduate early to get on campus to get the NIL money.
