I agree. He's a fast riser with Mississippi roots, Memphis ties and a track record as a head coach (albeit mostly at the high school and NAIA levels). Hiring him is like taking a Mark Reynolds swing; hiring Houston Nutt was more like emulating Pete Rose. Either way, in baseball or at Mississippi, you're only going to get a hit 20-35 percent of the time. Why not swing for the fences?
Also, shouldn't Ohio State technically be listed as "Open," since Fickell is under contract to be head coach for just this one season.
