Rome series finale

I raise a cup to a tremendously acted two-season show that made something that I never would have watched (I tuned in that first night because I had heard about the lathered sex on the show) into a history lesson and required viewing each week.

As far as my list of the greatest short-lived series go, it doesn't knock F&G off its No. 1 perch, but it is right in the mix below that.

Kevin McKidd, Ray Stevenson and James Purefoy have carved massive characters on a small screen.

And 40-year-old Polly Walker (the blazing redhead in Patriot Games) is MILF supreme.

Great series (although I liked season 1 better than season 2), but certainly don't take it as a history lesson. And it cost too much (and didn't get enough viewers) to go a third season, although not sure where else they could have gone with it.

I watched the first season. I haven't seen any of the second.
I'll definitely watch it on DVD.
They could have gone a long way with this, through the late republic into the early imperial era. They would have just had to developed new characters as they went forward.
But the expense of the show was huge.

Most interesting part of the article:

One seeming drawback to revisiting the show after its wrap was the demise of a key lead character, Lucius Vorenus (Kevin McKidd). Yet Heller reveals that the character's off-camera fate was far from fatal.

"It was very deliberate that we saw him drifting away but didn't see him atop a funeral pyre," Heller said.
