I always thought Reed posted up against big men better than anyone. Epic physical battles there in the paint.

I was born during the 1969-70 season and had a period of time where I was obsessed with those Knicks teams. I probably read every book about them (and there were a ton of them). I even bought the album of the radio calls from the 2 championship seasons.

Willis was my favorite. Even my grandmother, no racial pioneer (to put it mildly), always said how handsome she thought he was.

I was 3 when he retired so never saw him play but The Entrance has always been one of the iconic highlights of any generation.

I was just listening to Kornheiser, and he pointed out that en route to that 1970 championship, Reed, DeBusschere & Co. won consecutive playoff series over:

• Wes Unseld in his Rookie of the Year/MVP season.
• Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
• Wilt Chamberlain.

That was Kareem's rookie season, too.

Bucks moved to the Western Conference a year later and beat the Lakers en route to the 1971 title and lost to the 33-game win streak Lakers in the conference finals in 1972.

I became an instant Willis Reed fan, and he remains my favorite player ever.
