A bit surprised by this...

I got one for Christmas and thought it was amazing.

About a month later my newsroom issued a Droid X to everyone on staff. My Flip became instantly obsolete.

I just bought a brand new one, a Samsung FlashCam still sealed in the box, for $40 at a flea market. Even if these things are cheap they still can be great tools.

The next time I buy a tech gadget, I promise to let you guys know.

In January 2008, I bought a new car. The dealer was blowing out the 2007s and was giving away certain toys as a promo. I could have chosen between an XBOX 360, something else, and an HD-DVD player. I took the HD-DVD player, knowing there was a format war going on, but I had faith it would win out. A month later, Blu-Ray wins.

Last month, I bought the Flip UltraHD. And today....

Our newsroom was outfitted with the stupid things too. The quality was crap and the built-in editing software was ****, took hours to do simple edits.

I pushed for a year for work to let me buy an iPhone and switch my cell plan from the company to the company reimbursing me. Now I shoot my own video, edit and upload it from one device.

Journal Register Co. put Flips in the hands of every reporter companywide. Wonder how much money was spent? Ouch.

Our sports guys said that the Flips are very good for dying when you're in the heat of a state playoff game - especially state championship games.

Just because they're not making them anymore doesn't mean it's not a good product. I know I have better video resolution capabilities on my android phone, but the Flip has much better audio and it's ready on a moment's notice. Power on. Big red button. Go. I also like how you don't have to hold the thing sideways.

The day the porn industry chose to use Blu-Ray, it killed HD-DVD.

Just like Beta vs. VHS.

Flips are good for what they are but pretty much every new phone shoots at least some sort of HD. Why carry two devices when you can have just one ?

I love my Flip too. iPhones can't be the only other option. Anybody using anything else besides Flip cameras and cell phones?
