One of the greatest R&B voices ever. "Love TKO", "Turn Off the Lights" and a whole lot others. I'm surprised that he was only 59.

I do believe he was the creator of the NCAA basketball staple "One Shining Moment."
He had a great voice.
RIP, Teddy.

RIP to a true legend.
Teddy Pendergrass was an outstanding talent. Huge sports fan. There was always a rumor that Turquoise Eving, Dr. J's ex-wife, was in the car with Teddy when it crashed on Wissahickon Drive back in 1982. That's how he became paralyzed.
If you couldn't get your romance on with Teddy playing in the background, you had no romance.
This guy was so good that he had sold out women only concerts and it wasn't uncommon for women to throw their underwear on stage.

David Barrett was the original voice of "One Shining Moment".

TP was pure soul.

RIP

I guess someone finally turned out the lights, for good but whatever was ailing him, It Don't Hurt Now....... :P

If you didn't like this man's music, you have no taste. The man was a brilliant song writer, singer and a lot of people probably don't know, drummer. In fact, he got his start as a drummer (OK, I watch way too much VH1 Classic).

As great as Teddy P. was, he's not a member of the Rock and Roll hall of fame.

Let's not forget his lead vocals with Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes.
"If You Don't Know Me By Now"

Tremendous record that Mick Hucknall wouldn't come within a million miles of. And I kinda dug Simply Red.

I would never have heard of him if it wasn't for Eddie Murphy.

Eddie Murphy was a tremendous Teddy P fan. Referred to his work in his stand-up routines and of course used his song in the Nutty Professor.

A brief clip of Eddie Murphy's Delirious on Teddy P:

EDIT: Here's the whole routine on singers and, um, their ability to drive women crazy. (NSFW language, obviously).

His opening lines of The Love I Lost are as good as it gets and perfectly epitomize 70s Philly soul.

RIP to a legend, who like some of his peers (Curtis Mayfield jumps immediately to mind), was cut down before his time due to unfortunate circumstances.

Teddy P was it. I played Love TKO about 15 times in a row last night. Just an absolute shame. RIP to one of the best in R&B history.

Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff knew they had a sex magnet and a tremendous talent. But Teddy also knew he had star quality. Proof of that was that he was still a touring talent after getting hurt in 1982.

I knew Teddy was involved with the song in some way.
He sang the song for a stretch, but Luther V. eventually took hold of the torch.

Here is a bit of the wikipedia description of "One Shining Moment"

Notable artists to sing One Shining Moment

David Barrett was the original artist, but CBS has also broadcast remakes by Teddy Pendergrass (1994-1999) and Luther Vandross (2003-present). It is believed to be the last song Vandross recorded before his stroke and subsequent death.

I always thought Harold Melvin was lead singer of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes.

The extended version of The Love I Lost is terrific.

RIP
