What a night. What a show.Such sad news. He always came across as just a totally likable guy. Surprisingly good singer on top of being a good enough drummer to be the drummer in a band with freakin’ Dave Grohl in it.
We had seen them their last two stops in Toronto and you're right, Grohl is the face of the band but Taylor Hawkins was the guy who made it go, a fantastic, frenetic drummer, terrific singer (in the clip upthread he just sings the **** out of "Rock and Roll") and a great onstage foil ala Clarence Clemons. As tough it would be to be the drummer in Foo Fighters, replacing Hawkins makes it an even tougher gig.Holding tickets to a show in May. My GF is a huge Foos fan and has never seen them live. Grohl is the obvious face of the band, but Hawkins was its heart and soul, and his personal relationship with Grohl fueled a lot of its energy.
I would have thought being the drummer in Dave Grohl’s band would be the highest-pressure job in rock and roll, but Grohl obviously had deep respect for Hawkins as a drummer and a friend. Hurting for him, the band and all of their fans. Such a loss, and way, way too soon.
