RIP Taylor Hawkins

Well, as we all know, TMZ is usually on top of this sort of thing. The band was in Bogota, Colombia, which of course is where he died. There's a website called memesrandom.com (which seems a bit shifty) that has a story saying he was found dead in his hotel room.

Foo Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkins Dead at 50

That is terrible news, obviously. Foo Fighters was one of the bands keeping rock music in the mainstream, so I supported them big time.

Holding tickets to a show in May. My GF is a huge Foos fan and has never seen them live. Grohl is the obvious face of the band, but Hawkins was its heart and soul, and his personal relationship with Grohl fueled a lot of its energy.

I would have thought being the drummer in Dave Grohl’s band would be the highest-pressure job in rock and roll, but Grohl obviously had deep respect for Hawkins as a drummer and a friend. Hurting for him, the band and all of their fans. Such a loss, and way, way too soon.

We had seen them their last two stops in Toronto and you're right, Grohl is the face of the band but Taylor Hawkins was the guy who made it go, a fantastic, frenetic drummer, terrific singer (in the clip upthread he just sings the **** out of "Rock and Roll") and a great onstage foil ala Clarence Clemons. As tough it would be to be the drummer in Foo Fighters, replacing Hawkins makes it an even tougher gig.

One of the first things I thought of upon hearing the news was Moddy's Foo Fridays IG posts.

RIP to a great rock and roller gone much too soon.

My son, perhaps a bigger fan than I am if that's possible, wonders if this is the end of the line. How would YOU like to be the drummer who replaces Taylor Hawkins.

They basically have a printing press for money now but they also all have a lot of money already and potential for more going solo or with other groups.
