Hopefully it won't be as bad as the one that struck DC a few years ago.

I always heard NYC was the big target for the evil gods of plate tectonics.
I know at some point I read several scaremongering pieces about the inevitable 7.5 temblor destined to shake up Gotham.

Never read that about New York, but St. Louis and Memphis have long been in the crosshairs. At one point, FEMA had standing 24-hour emergency plans -- ones they could mobilize within a day that included stockpiling supplies at key points and rushing in personnel -- for three or four worst-case disaster scenarios. One of them was a New Madrid earthquake.

My mom in Wisconsin once bought earthquake insurance based on the threat of the New Madrid fault.

Not the wisest decision, but they were selling it hard.
