RIP Roger Moore

I'm not old enough to remember Sean Connery as Bond, so Moore is the Bond I grew up with. Moonraker was the first Bond movie I remember vividly being released, and I have been to the island in Thailand where the end of The Man with the Golden Gun was shot (it was part of a boat tour when we were on vacation in the late 1980s).

I am old enough to remember Moore in "Maverick" as long lost cousin Beau. He had one schtick of charming rogue that worked for him very well as Bond, obviously.

It was either in Cannonball Run or Gumball Rally in which Moore played a man who thought he was Roger Moore. I think his role invented meta.

Moore is the Bond I grew up with too. My first memory of his movies was when ABC would show them as Sunday Night Movies (or whatever night that was).

Even took the schtick to "Cannonball Run," which I'm still a sucker to watch every now and then.

Same here. In his obit, Moore stated it was ridiculous to believe Bond could really be a spy (using his real name, always drinking and womanizing, etc.) so he loaded up on bad puns and played 007 for laughs.

"The Spy Who Loved Me" and "Live and Let Die" are my two favorite films with him as Bond. (Doesn't hurt that those are two of the best Bond movie songs) One of Moore's best jokes was when Bond picked up a full deck of "Lovers" tarot cards to help seduce Jane Seymour's character.

A friend did some work with him when he was Unicef. Said he had time for everyone, wicked sense of humor and was pretty self deprecating. Said he was an all around awesome guy.

I don't know that he was the best Bond but he was the Bond I enjoyed the most. As noted, was tremendous in Cannonball Run. "I must warn you, I am Roger Moore"

I think a lot of the anti-Moore feelings out there stem from the fact that the scripts took a more camp turn when he took over, and he certainly played the character that way. I like camp, but I get that it's not for everyone.
