While Field of Dreams was the vehicle, I really feel Liotta’s acting helped turn Shoeless Joe from a baseball footnote into a baseball legend.

He was, of course, remarkable in Goodfellas. And his series with J-Lo, Shades of Blue, was above-average TV, too. An actor who knew who and what he was.

One of those actors who made you sit up when he shows up on screen. Unpredictable, funny, menacing, charming. He was all these things. (Often all at the same time). Check out Narc, if you haven't already.

Loved Goodfellas. It's one of my 10 favorite movies. Don't think of him necessarily as having carried Field of Dreams. Loved Something Wild.

For the last 10 years or so, he had the look of a guy who had lived hard and abused his body. That said, 67 is too young.

He also had a guest star turn in an episode of ER as a man dying of liver disease. That's not a lightweight show in terms of acting ability and he was still in another league.

Lead role in one of the great American movies of all time is naturally going to obscure his other work, but Liotta was no worse than real real good in anything he did. Usually he was way better than that.
