One of the cool things during my childhood into teen'dom was listening to my grandfather talk about playing poker every week with Mazursky and other heavyweights. The L.A. Times did a story about their Wednesday night go-arounds. Harry was Condor.

Missed this a couple of days ago and can't believe it didn't elicit one response, which surprises me considering how long he was very relevant in Hollywood.

I absolutely love the film Moscow on the Hudson. Actually own it on DVD (though it's now in my nephew's possession). He also did a great turn as the elderly father on the Sela Ward show Once And Again. Also had an interesting role in The Sopranos.

Paul Mazursky was in in Stanley Kubrick's first film, "Fear and Desire." Kubrick is right that the movie, about four American soldiers caught behind enemy lines, is pretty dull. But a real keeper is the scene where Mazursky, already on edge, freaks out when he's assigned to guard a peasant girl they've come upon and tied up. The scene begins about 29:30 in (the movie's copyright expired, so it's online).

Read yesterday Mr. Mazursky also directed "Harry and Tonto." It's been quite some time since I've seen it but remember the movie's poignancy. IIRC, Art Carney got the Oscar for Best Actor.

Did not realize until now that Mazursky was "Norm" on Curb Your Enthusiasm" Some classic episodes
including "The Black Swan" that ended in "Norm's death on the golf course blamed on Larry.
