RIP Billy Ray Smith

Very sad day for the Wildcat community. Billy Ray was a sweetheart of a guy who was always kind and friendly to those around him. Farewell, old friend. Football exacts a heavy price.

I listened to the Scott and BR show on the Mighty 690 (or its afterlife) for maybe close to a decade. I am going to say I listened to roughly a thousand hours over the years. Smith seemed like a GENUINELY nice person. I know that its a cliche. But he did seem like such a great guy. A fantastic career in San Diego.

I seem to remember hearing dementia-type stories even five years ago.

Football is such a brutal sport.

I may just not be remembering, but I don't think Arkansas ever properly honored him. No retired jersey. No put him on the field at halftime and wave to the crowd. I always assumed it was due to his broadcasting career keeping him from making the trip.
