Sirs, Madames,

Wasn't that Merv Griffin's set?

I remember when Moe Howard was on and broke a bottle over MD's head (and his hairpiece moved).

My favorite guy on the show was Sandy Barron, a comic who never broke out but was a freakin' riot in Broadway Danny Rose.

Totie Fields -- oy gevalt, stump and all.

YHS, etc

Don't remember Sandy Barron but i recall Totie Fields and Moms Mabley too.

Mike was a fixture of my after-school TV viewing.....

I thought it was Mike Douglas, too. But it was Merv.

[Kramer's Apartment - The Merv Griffin set]

KRAMER: Okay. A little later, we're gonna be talking with animal expert, Jim Fowler.
FOWLER: Where are the cameras? (he has a live Hawk perched on his arm)
KRAMER: But first, we're talking with, Jerry. (looks down to his yellow note cards) Okay, Jerry, uh, you uh, you drugged a woman in order to play with her toy, collection. How do you feel about that?
JERRY: It was great! I've done it a few more time since then.
KRAMER: And she doesn't know anything, about this?
JERRY: No, not a thing.
KRAMER: Well, Jerry, we have a little surprise for you! Come on out, Celia!

(just like the The Jerry Springer Show)
CELIA: What kind of a sick twisted creep are you?
NEWMAN & KRAMER: Woah.
JERRY: What, What is this? What is she doing here?
KRAMER: It's the new format. Scandals and Animals. Git gt gt.
CELIA: If you think you can drug me and play with my toys, you got another thing coming, buddy!
NEWMAN: Go girl!

What are you saying, they're not the same person?

It was cool when he did he show at the KYW studio on 5th and Market in Philadelphia, we used to watch every day to see if we knew anybody in the audience. It was a sad day when the show moved to the west coast.

I always enjoyed his show. He came across as an honest, straight-forward guy. He told a funny story in his book where Rush Limbaugh during the Clinton impeachment nonsense was talking about Michael Douglas, saying Michael Douglas admitted he was a sex addict and got treatment. Only Rush, being loose with facts and stuff coming out of his mouth, says "Mike Douglas". So Mike Douglas, not Michael, walks into the grill of his country club and, as Mike Douglas described it, gets all kinds of strange looks. Eventually, he figured it out.

And Kramer got Merv Griffin's old set.

Mike was always part of my Mom's afternoon routine (we watched on KYW then also, part-timer), then I think Merv was on right after that.

All I remember was I think he had lots of asterisks on his set.

my grandmother loved mike. even when he had patti smith and john and yoko on. what a trip.

r.i.p., mike.

At his funeral Mass, will the priest hold up a co-host symbolizing Mike's body?

RIP

Let's see if Tiger shows a little ... something... and puts a tiny memoriam to Mike on the bag at Medinah.

Mike even had a hit record called "The Man In My Little Girl's Life," I think. It may not have been my cup of tea but it was a hit. Mike gave a lot of people a break, a daytime show that most all of show biz folks watched. (And if you confuse Mike with Merv Griffin, you're just a child.)

RIP, Mike.
