Well, he was in the hospital. It’s not like he died in his RV parked in the infield.

Sick two weeks ago.
Raced last weekend.
Checked himself into a hospital this morning.
Never saw sundown.

Is that timeline wrong?

It more shows how these guys are almost more independent contractors than part of a team.

I’m a hardcore IndyCar fan and a casual NASCAR fan, but I never minded him. NASCAR always needs a heel, I figured.

My buddy’s wife stepped into the shower at age 40 and never stepped out. By contrast, he spent four months in the hospital awaiting a liver transplant that never came. None of makes any sense. (Thinking about it because he was the biggest race fan I knew and seems relevant … if for no other reason the sheer ****ed up-ness of it all).

Kyle Busch was (almost by name) one of the original Busch-whackers dropping down to what was (and is) the AAA of NASCAR and winning on Saturdays with superior stuff. That changed in 2011 when NASCAR changed the rules. Don't know why it took so long.

A lot of things don't add up. Only a casual racing fan, but I know the name. Still ... 41.

He's NASCAR's all-time leader in wins across all three national series, with 234 (63 Cup, 69 Trucks, and 102 in Busch/Xfinity/O'Reilly).
Richard Petty is second with 200 and Kevin Harvick is third with 121.

Which, for those uninitiated, can be $50k/round. Insurance won’t always cover it, and if you’re a certain age insurance will stop covering it or reduce how many rounds you’re eligible for.

I thought the guy mellowed, especially once it was clear that he was not going to find much success at RCR. The reason why NASCAR was slow to limit Buschwhacking was because those Cup drivers were selling sponsorships for teams and tickets for the tracks.

Absolutely not making this connection, and I feel terrible for this but the first name that came to mind was Neil Bonnett, and by that I meant Tim Richmond (sorry, my NASCAR knowledge starts at the Rainbow Warriors).

But honestly, that's one of the last non-violent premature NASCAR deaths I can think of.
