Considered the first female superstar of country music. Dead at 92 from a stroke:

God must have needed another Honky Tonk Angel ...

Does this close the latest "Death in Threes" with Wells, Jon Lord of Deep Purple and actress Celeste Holm, or is the music world still looking for No. 3 and Hollywood on edge for two others?

RIP to a true country legend.
Pretty much every female country artist that hit it big -- Patsy Cline, Loretta, Dolly, God knows anyone today -- followed the trail Kitty Wells blazed.

On a package show in Buffalo, with us and Kitty Wells and Charlie Pride.
The show was long, and we was just sitting there, and we'd come to play and not just for the ride.
Well we drank a lot of whiskey, so I don't know if we went on that night at all.
And they didn't even miss us, I guess Buffalo ain't geared for me & Paul.

A legend. RIP.

Also unique in that she was a token "girl singer" who managed to eclipse the male part of the act, one half of which happened to be her husband, yet he seems to have been fairly content to more or less fade into the background and let her be the star.

Coincidentally, their son was a regular cast member on "McHale's Navy," and of course Ernest Borgnine also just died.

OK....Now I am really curious: Which McHale's Regular is her son?

Great version of that from the VH-1 Storytellers he did with Johnny Cash in the late 90s. You can hear Cash laughing a few times in the background.

John Wright, who also went by Bobby Wright as a singer. He played Willy Moss on PT 73.

Here he is with his parents and some other guy. ;)
