John Leptich died of bone cancer on Monday.
He most recently was a sports writer/copy editor at the East Valley Tribune. Before that he was a sports writer at the Chicago Tribune. He covered schools and the Sting (soccer) besides working on the desk.
He also was a sports memorabilia buff. In fact, his biggest story involved a Nolan Ryan card bought for a few dollars by a boy. He even appeared on Nightline to talk about this article.
