I had no idea he was from The Netherlands.

Seattle Mariners OF prospect murdered by his brother. :'(

BA had him as the No. 11 prospect in the Seattle system in its 2011 Prospect Handbook. Had some serious power - 33 home runs at Tacoma (AAA) in 2010. Struck out a lot. "The Mariners would like to see him be more aggressive on the basepaths and less aggressive at the plate. If he can make strides in that area, he could be an everyday player in the Preston Wilson mold."

Played 35 games with the Mariners this past season at age 23, so he was coming along.

Senseless.

So by my count, he is the fourth active MLBer murdered. Miguel Fuentes. Lyman Bostock. Dernell Stinson. Now Halman.

Other players that have been murdered, they were not active when it happened though.

Ivan Calderon
Gus Polidor
Tony Solaita
Luke Easter
Hiram Bithorn

Maybe also Ed Delahanty, but we'll never know for sure.

Went to a couple M's games this year in which Halman played. He seemed to have great instincts in the outfield.

So young, just a tragic story.

It was far too long for me. But the dates changed. Most of them added up the 21st. But at least one was the 22nd. Which is just odd, and threw me off.

Very interesting footnote that Jason received no jail time and instead will get treatment. Couldn't be further from how an American court would handle this. I thought it was curious that the angle was not at all told as part of the story.
