All very mysterious. Maybe they kicked him out because he came out of the closest. That would be too much irony

Re: Fred Phelps near death, also ex-communicated

It's his church, his rules. It has nothing to do with any real Baptist church. It doesn't make sense that he would be ex-communicated.

A long painful and excruciating death, and then....

Re: Fred Phelps near death, also ex-communicated

Would Fred Phelps being a man who repressed and hid his homosexuality be among the least surprising things ever?

It's one thing when older people are conflicted because of their religious beliefs or aren't sure what to make of gay people or even passively disapproving. It doesn't necessarily make it right, but you can grasp the culture and psychology behind it. But to have that much hate and dedicated your life to it, there's got to be something deeper there.

But will they protest his funeral? ::) ::)

Would be hilarious and appropriate if a gay rights group decided to organize and do just that.

Re: Fred Phelps near death, also ex-communicated

The ultimate troll move would be for the Westboro survivors to declare that Phelps had gone gay or apostate and protest accordingly.

No, throw an uproarious celebration and full-dress drag parade, keyed by the theme song, "Ding Dong, The Witch Is Dead."

Time to book a flight to Kansas. Or wherever they're having the funeral.

Re: Fred Phelps near death, also ex-communicated

Mocking the dead is truly psychotic.

Even though he isn't officially dead yet. :D

Hey, Fart is not going to lose any sleep over it, but I wouldn't **** on the dude's grave.

Re: Fred Phelps near death, also ex-communicated

I'd chug-a-lug a 2-liter of Mountain Dew (which I hate) just to be sure I could give his gravestone a good hosedown.

Having seen the Westboro ****s live in action, I hope this happens.

I am surprised it has not come to violence with these folks. I really am surprised.
I believe in being a peacemaker (in my real life), but I cannot promise what I would do if I saw someone picketing my loved one's funeral.
I think it would trigger something in my reptile mind that would lead only to physical, deadly violence inflicted on that person.

We can always keep hope alive.

Re: Fred Phelps near death, also ex-communicated

Never come to pass.
At their source, they're cowards.
They threaten to emotionally abuse these people's survivors, but they don't even get close when it comes time to grab the picket.

Re: Fred Phelps near death, also ex-communicated

The Westboro folks will get a huge kick out of it if people protest the funeral. Attention and anger is exactly what they want, that's why they took the show national when locals stopped getting pissed and mostly laughed or ignored them.
