RIP Eddie Money

Damn, damn, damn. Part of the soundtrack of my youth.

Should have lived to see his Hall induction.

Almost died of an OD in the 80s - came back with Take Me Home Tonight - and a few more. Herb Caen once had a line that Huey Lewis looks like a cop, but is a rock star, Eddie Money was a cop but looked like a rock star.

GTFO with that. He had a slew of great songs, man. Winger? You crazy.

I'm not suggesting Winger is good.

Eddie Money, all due respect to the guy, did not have a slew of great songs. He had three hits. A couple of them are pretty good.

Put me down as a fan of “Gimme some Water” as well. Great song that practically vanished from the radio. Another fave was “It’s Gotta be Love.”

I have two very specific Eddie Money since my teens years were just after his career faded in the late 1980s.

— Him just showing up at an MTV rock and Jock softball game because he heard about it while driving around. They showed him in the outfield and he just looked cooler than everyone else playing.
— Beavis and Butthead watching a video of Shakin and quasi making fun of the twitchy faces he was making. Butthead tries to mimic it, and then Beavis tries but only does his normal stare.

Take Me Home Tonight
Two Tickets to Paradise
Shakin
Endless Nights
Walk on Water.
I Wanna Go Back
Baby Hold on to Me

I just more than doubled your claim. Those are all 7 big hits that you still hear regularly on the radio.

Those "big hits"? He had two top ten singles in his entire career.

Look, man, I've got nothing against Eddie Money. If you like that stuff, cool. But Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? That's the equivalent of a second baseman hitting .260 going in the Baseball hall.

Come on, you know better than to judge a band on how many top 10 songs they had. The Grateful Dead and Led Zeppelin only had one each, IIRC, with Touch of Grey and Whole Lotta Love. Top 10 means they were hot in the moment. His music has staying power. What makes Bon Jovi, Kiss or Def Leppard better than him? You don't hear more of their songs on the radio than you do Eddie Money.

That's why will always love this place, guys debating the relative merits of Eddie Money (not a HOFer in my book). And anyone who rips Gino Vanelli can go **** their hat. Not a HOFer - even here in Canuckistan - but black cars do look better in the shade.

Also, not enough kids named Eddie anymore. I don't think my kids know a single Eddie. Everyone should know an Eddie.

I'm not the one making the "big hits" argument. That was you, and he did not have them.

"Staying power"? OK.

Look, man, he was a decent, workmanlike entertainer. Plenty of people who were responsible for booking state fair entertainment were thankful for Eddie Money. He couldn't not have been much more generic or forgettable. Several songs were pleasant.
