RIP Dan Reeves

The hits keep coming. Three Super Bowls in four years and couldn't ever get over the hump. The Drive. The Fumble. Elway working his wizardry to make the Broncos relevant and so much fun after Bowlen bought the team in the mid-1980s.

Had been battling dementia.

A giant with the Broncos and rightly in their Ring of Fame.

RIP.
If he had dementia, I'm glad to hear his struggles -- and those of his family -- have ended.

Man, I remember that game like it was yesterday. One of those that felt pivotal in real time, back when the hype machine was nowhere near what it is today. The Parcells-era Giants, going for one more shot, against the dynastic Cowboys and Emmitt Smith, dragging them across the finish line after Jerrah nearly ****ed up the season by letting him hold out the first two games. I tend to think those Cowboys would have won three playoff games before winning the Super Bowl, but who knows, maybe the narrative around Reeves completely changes if the Giants earn the no. 1 seed. Maybe they roll with the home field advantage and beat the Bills in a Super Bowl rematch.

Emmitt likely wouldn’t have been available the first game, his shoulder was a problem. As a Dallas fan I always think of that NYG team as tough to play against.

Giants got the ball first in OT but didn’t get very far.

If recently departed Dan Reeves goes into the NFL Hall of Fame I believe it would be a first for having 2 HOFers in any sport having the same name. Former LA Rams owner Dan Reeves was inducted in 1967. Useless trivia.
I watched a lot of Dallas games in the 60s and 70s when Reeves and Walt Garrison were the 2 hard running backs.

It’s late, but I can’t think of any even crossing sports…
