RIP, Ground Chuck.

He was coaching the Rams when I started cheering for them. They won the division every season then lost to the Cowboys or Viking in the playoffs.

Those were some fun teams, though. John Hadl, Lawrence McCutcheon, a D line including Merlin Olson, Jack Youngblood and Fred Dryer.

He led the Rams to five straight first place finishes before getting let go after the 1977 season bc the team was supposedly not exciting enough. What a travesty. He led three different organizations to new heights with the Rams, Bills and Seahawks. I think he has a strong Hall of Fame case.

He was 54-15 in his first stint with the Rams, an obscene .782 winning percentage. Yes, he was mediocre in the playoffs (3-5) during that span and 7-11 overall. But George Allen was 2-7 in his entire playoff career and he’s in.
