Figured to be, but I was still rooting for him to make the team.

I'm guessing he goes to their practice squad and spends a handful of games on the 53-man roster when injuries occur. Pretty typical path for a late-round pass-rusher.

In retrospect, the Rams were a terrible fit for him, considering he's a pass-rushing specialist and St. Louis has two defensive ends (Robert Quinn, Chris Long) who never come off the field.

Really makes you wonder if there wasn't some sort of deal struck with the front office in NY.

A seventh rounder was cut? Wow, I'm shocked.

That's a tough D for him to crack, he should be on the practice squad and may still get his chance.

He played well enough I wouldn't be surprised if he catches on with a team that has more of a need.

If Tom Brady were cut, he wouldn't get as much attention as ESPN has given this. Jeez, we have a 100th-round draft pick who doesn't make the team; I know — shocking.

I agree that the coverage is overblown and I'm sure there is already another round of idiotic responses coming from the folks who know nothing about football and think Sam is being treated unfairly. That said, did anybody really expect this to be treated like any other 7th rounder being cut?

It will say a lot if he clears waivers, which it sounds like he will.

He had a couple big plays against backups that have been shown over an over again like he just broke Strahan's record.

Schefter just tweeted that it sounds like he cleared waivers.

No, but like so many other things, ESPN has overblown this so much that I think people are rooting for him to go away. It's not entirely different from Tebow.

I actually really don't think coverage of this has been overblown. People reacting like ESPN should be treating Sam like any other seventh rounder are kidding themselves. The first openly gay player trying to make an NFL roster most certainly has news value.

Unlike the Tebow coverage, outlets such as ESPN haven't made it a point to work Sam into their coverage of other subjects. They broadcast stories about Sam, discuss what's going on, and move on to other stories, as they should.

I'm curious whether any teams that may have passed on Sam because "DISTRACTIONS!" might give him a second look after seeing how he handled himself during camp.

Michael Sam is well spoken and a credit to his gender. I predict that
he will be back with The Rams by tomorrow. Jersey sales alone
will pay his keep.

I thought Tebow's fans engendered more resentment than ESPN or the media did.

Much like Red Sox fans

The Red Sox fan is the most odious creature in sports.
Of course ESPN would promote its interests.
If you think Red Sox nation is intolerable, wait until the Cubs start winning.
Everybody and their grandma will be a "long-suffering fan."
