Coincidence that Finder, Dunlap and Dejan all have bailed on the P-G in the past year?

There was a good deal of separation between Finder's departure and that of Dunlap and Kovacevic. If I remember correctly, Finder accepted a buyout.

Clint Hurdle is going to have bench coach Jeff Banister call in a linescore.

Nah, he'll get the stat girl who only puts nicknames down to call in.

"Hello, Pittsburgh Post Gazette."

"Hi, this is Clint Hurdle of the Pirates."

"Pirates? Of what? The Carribean?"

"Ha, ha, I've heard that one before. I'm calling in my game from tonight."

"Oh, OK, What happened?"

"Well, you would know what happened, if you had a reporter attending on a regular basis."

"Sorry, we had to cover that Riverside-Karns City game. You know, we can't be at every game."

"Well, you should have been at this one. I mean, Neil Walker went 0-for 4 with three strikeouts, but in the previous game, he just broke the 40-RBI mark. You really should do an article on him. How much would it take?"

"Like I've said, we've been really busy as of late. We'll keep Neil in mind."

"Oh, I see how it is. I'm getting tired of you only covering us when the Phillies come to town. So how much will it take?"

"No, no, we don't accept money. But anyways, how did it go tonight?"

"We lost to the Cubs, 10-1. Andrew McCutchen had a double, stole third and scored on a wild pitch by Zambrano. That was it pretty much. Oh, and Joe Beimel had two strikeouts".

"Two strikeouts? That's pretty good for him. He's coming on."

"Well, he struck out Zambrano and their 8th hitter. Those were the only two outs he recorded. He also gave up five runs. But can you not mention that? I don't need his mother to be calling me?"

They should draft Paul Meyer to come back. Loved that guy.

Thirty years worth of no-smoking regulations would have to be rescinded for that to happen.

I once saw Paul standing directly below a NO SMOKING sign smoking a cigarette. I pointed to the sign. His response: "I used to smoke here before they put the sign up."

I once saw him barge into McLendon's visiting manager office, pour himself a cup of coffee, grab an ashtray and start smoking. Lloyd said, "Are you comfortable?!" and laughed.

He seems to be some sort of catch-all sports reporter, covering high school, college and professional sports. It'll be interesting to see what they do here.

According to Jerry Micco's chat on Wednesday, Bill Brink is the interim beat writer. It sounds like he will be covering most of the games this year at least temporarily.

We've deduced that. I imagine they're starting interviews this or next week to replace him full time, though.
