Bill Brink handled the road trip to New York, but Dejan Kovacevik covered last night's home gamer and notebook. Any chance they go with this situation for the rest of the season? Anybody hearing anything on the job?

Content sharing deal with the local Patch site.

The starting pitcher's mom is covering the game tonight.

It's the Pirates. Does anyone else care? :D

Hey, don't look now, but they just took two in a row from the Phillies. I have to figure this pitching isn't going to hold up for the duration, but the starters have been surprisingly good through the first two months, particularly when you consider how atrocious they were last year. Morton and Correia have made drastic improvements over what they were doing in 2010.

As far as the beat, am I right Brink is like a year or two out of college? Don't know him and I'm in no position to judge. He's got a great chance to seize a tremendous opportunity -- the sort of thing a lot of us dream of. I hope he does well with it. But it seems like a big job for someone so inexperienced -- the Pirates' irrelevance notwithstanding.

Nah, he'll get the stat girl who only puts nicknames down to call in.

It frightens me that you know who the Pirates bench coach is.

The Pirates are in the right division to make a freak run, whenever they do become mildly competitive. The Cardinals are very much a feast-or-famine team, where injuries to Pujols or a few pitchers kills them. The Reds look on the rise, but haven't put everything together yet. Brewers are cresting down a bit. And the Cubs are arguably just as mismanaged as the Pirates, given all those resources.

All I can say is wow. He left after 26 years at the PG. But I'm not sure how this will impact the Pirates gig. Bill Brink was the No. 2 guy with Colin and traveled with the team recently.

Wow. Not only has Dejan been there forever, he was a real workhorse. I don't know too many other baseball beat guys who did hard-core news series like he did. Huge loss for the paper.

WOW. That's a huge get for the Trib-Review. Dejan knew his **** at the PG, even when the Pirates were pure ****. He was/is very knowledgeable about baseball.

1, 2, 3: No, I'm not Dejan and I don't know him. Congratulations, though!

Rossi doesn't count for two reasons - he is irrelevant and the P-G didn't want to keep him. There is no guy in that town who wants to be a star worse than him and yet he is known far more around town for having a Fu Man Chu stache on TV than anything he has done in journalism.

Bill Steigerwald, who is a columnist on the news side is the last one I can think of that went from P-G to Trib.

Interestingly enough, the last and only guy I can think of to go from the Trib to the P-G was Colin Dunlap and well, given his actions in recent weeks - starting with him quitting with no notice - I'm thinking there has to be some buyer's remorse on the P-G's part.

I forgot about Steigerwald. Really surprised the Trib was able to steal Dejan away.

Rossi definitely doesn't count. Neither does Dunlap. He was just a freelancer for the Trib. That's how he started with the PG, too, and worked his way up.
