I recognize and occasionally would cross paths with reporters at several of the other small town "dailies" mentioned in the story (Washington Evening Journal, Mount Pleasant News, Fairfield Ledger). I doubt any of them are produced daily anymore, but they had a decent amount of local reporting 25 to 35 years ago.

And the Gazette was a solid newspaper, too. "Miss a day and you miss a lot."
