So I just sat in a drive-thru line for 15 minutes for the "god's gift to food" that is In N Out.

Never have I been so disappointed in a meal.

The fries are terrible, the shake tastes like crap, and the double-double came with some Big Mac dressing it said nothing about on the menu, costing me 10 minutes of picking all the mini-pickles and onions off all portions of my burger. By that time it was cold and not good.

So...what am I missing?

15 minutes waiting in line at a drive-thru? Well, you had a chance to pull off a quickie before paying for that crap. In and Out was good when I lived in L.A. 15 years ago.

Oh wow, you got a fluke trip there. I love that place.

Well,I mean, I'll take the fall for having to wipe the sauce off. I'm allergic to onions, so I couldn't eat it. I just didn't know it was on there.

Maybe hot, the burger was good.

But the fries tasted, I don't know, almost stale.

And buckweaver, thanks for answering the question. ::)

You're a terrible human being.

I did pass a Carl's Jr., first time I'd seen one of those too.

Isn't Carl's just a Hardee's with another name?

Tell ME what I'm missing: Are you on your own dime? If you are eating fast food on the company dime, you deserve whatever hell you get for a meal.

ijag....

I had a very similar experience with the much-lauded Steak-N-Shake.

Never been to an In-N-Out.

I do. I must be a sorry ****. I'll eat a fine meal by myself if someone is paying for it.

Steak n shake's food blows. The shakes are pretty good. Really good.

Never had one of the new Chick-Fil-A shakes. May have to try one. Just not on Sunday.

Yeah, I can take or leave Steak N' Shake's food. Usually leave it. Their fries are atrocious.

But I would kill my own mother and eat her kidney for a shake from that place.

I can't imagine anyone not loving In-N-Out.
It's the best, IJAG. The best.
Admittedly, there are lot of ins and outs to eating there, and looking at the menu doesn't help the uninitiated.
All burgers come with lettuce, tomato, onion, Thousand Island dressing unless you ask them to hold something.
I don't like Thousand Island dressing, and I don't like lettuce or tomatoes on my hamburgers.
So I order my In-N-Out with just mustard, ketchup and onions.
I love In-N-Out. It's the best thing about California.

Yes, Carl's Jr. and Hardee's are one and the same. After buying Hardee's, Carl's Jr. didn't think dumping the name in the South would be very popular.

I'd eat alone at a restaurant. Call it a loner tendency. :-\

I've been told the Chick-Fil-A shakes are great shakes, and I've had both Sonic and Bruster's, two very good shake sources.

I guess, Buck with a capital B, that I didn't see the Thousand Island on the menu where it listed all the ingredients, or I would have asked them to hold it like I did the onions. I even read it twice to make sure.

I just looked at the Web site, and it says "spread". So I'll take the fall for not asking.

Glad I could help out. I have 3/4 of an order of fries and 2/3 of a burger over here if you want it. :)

IJAG, I say this with love: don't subscribe to that "I don't eat at restaurants alone" theory. It's OK to go to a restaurant and sit at a table by yourself. Unless it's a feminine thing.

I always get extra spread to dip my fries in. Hell, I love that almost as much as the burger.

And damn, this thread just made my dinner decision for tonight. Thanks, IJAG. ;D

You ever get your fries animal style? I always think I should try that, then I always chicken out.

IJAG--sorry you had a bad experience there. For my money, the fries are one of the cool things about the place. They don't use frozen fries--they cut actual potatoes on the spot, then cook them.

Hahahah junkie.

And there's only like five things on an In-N-Out menu. And the woman standing outside taking orders (I guess trying to work ahead for the people taking the money) had a flip down menu with a description. Plus, I'd gone to the Web site earlier.
