Shipping prices on Amazon is driving me back to brick and mortar.
Maybe that's a good thing.

My wife has a Prime account, and if I told her I wanted to order a polar bear with a juke box strapped to its back, she'd just say OK send me the link. No questions asked. That's not the point.
Sometimes, I'd like to order a neck gaiter or a spool of fishing line or a pack of beef jerky on my own autonomy.
But when I put something in my cart for 6.99 and my checkout price is 18.99 for shipping ... uhhhh, no.

My husband's had prime forever and I'm a family member on his account and I order what the f*** I want through prime and I don't pay for shipping and I also get the added perks like free books once a month and some other stuff that comes along with prime.

My wife is naive enough to believe I’m a big boy and shared the Amazon Prime sign on with me, so I can use it at will.

I gave up most of my autonomy when I got married and most of the rest of it when we signed up for Amazon Prime. There is a way to “hide” orders by going into the order history and archiving them. I do that when I buy my wife presents I want to be a surprise. Order status updates sometimes go to an email she uses, so that usually doesn’t work, but it’s the thought that counts.

My biggest reluctance to co-mingle Amazon stuff is my Kindle. I want my recommendations to be Zane Grey, not Patricia Cornwell. Wife ordered me a new Kindle with three months free Kindle Unlimited earlier this year. It was a mess to untangle because it was ordered under her name, so they tried to give her the free subscription, and I had to force my purchased content into it.
And like Oggie said, sometimes I might like to order a gift for my wife.
Other times, I just want to do it myself. It's not that I'm ordering anything nefarious.

Yeah - To piggyback off of this, even if you have an existing Amazon account, it can be linked / umbrella'ed to the account that has Prime. There's no need to do logouts and login to the Prime account, folks.

When I need to buy my wife a present, I send the link to a friend or my daughter-in-law for them to order it.

If I need to get a gift for my son, I tell him to pick what he wants and use my credit card up to whatever amount.

I don't use Prime. But I almost always get free Amazon shipping by having the qualifying order amount. Used to be $25, now I think it's $35. And if I'm gonna be charged, say, $7 for shipping because my order is only $28, I'll find something else I need for $7 or $8, and then I pay that for real value, not shipping.

And even without Prime, most of the time Amazon has it at my door in three days or less ... and sometimes the next day anyway.

I’ve greatly reduced my Prime usage (**** you, Bezos) but as others said, your wife can name you a family member and you’ll get Prime access too. Your suggestions will not get mixed up with hers. The accounts remain separate. So purchase as many old Playboys as you want.

I am sure that Bezos is one of the worst people in the world, and Amazon is an evil company, but a couple of times this fall, we have ordered something early morning, including a robot vacuum, and it's been at our doorstep by early afternoon. Combine that with easy returns, and it is really hard to beat. Sorry brick and mortars.

To expand on my earlier post, nothing irritates me more than going to a brick and mortar and being told they don’t have what I’m looking for and that I should get it on Amazon instead.

My son needed grip tape for his skateboard. So we went out of our way to get it at the small skate shop across town, because the owner is really great and I like to give him as much business as I can. Even he said the other day that he was out of that particular grip tape, but I could “probably get it cheaper on Amazon, anyway.”
