I'm sad to see him go. There's never been a more exciting pitcher to watch than Pedro at his peak.

I don't know why he waited until now to announce it. Someone probably told him he needed to get his HOF countdown clock started.

Him and Maddux are the two best pitchers of the last 30 years.

You don't need to announce your retirement at all for the HOF. You are eligible after five seasons in which you don't play. Period.

The biggest MVP robbery of my lifetime was when Pudge beat him in 1999.

In my opinion, he's a first-ballot lock.

First-ballot lock, no doubt.

This will always make me happy, though:

Always respected Pedro more than I liked him, but he gave two quotes that are pretty cool:

"Wake up the Bambino. Maybe I'll drill him in the ass."

and

"Who is Karim Garcia?"

Do you know what makes me happy? 2004.

I'm sorry, I'm unfamiliar with that year. :P

Most exciting pitcher of my lifetime. Wish the game had more personalities like him.

Boston fans of a certain age were spoiled watching Larry Bird, then Pedro and now Tom Brady.

Not sure any sports town has been that blessed.

His 1999-2000 seasons have got to be two of the best back-to-back seasons any pitcher has ever had.

The 90s kind of sucked for the most part for Boston sports fans. (Yes, I realize Drew Bledsoe had a few good years.) I can take solace in that.

If Gooden in 1985 was the best pitched season of my lifetime, I would put Pedro's 1999 season second.

Except Pedro's 2000 was better than both of those.

Montreal...Patrick Roy, Maurice Richard, Jean Beliveau, Ken Dryden. That's just the tip of the iceberg.

It is Pedro and Koufax by a good margin as the two best pitchers I have seen in my life, and who I think was better flips back and forth on an almost daily basis.
From a selfish point of view, covering Pedro was just a blast. It is my fond hope to live long enough to cast my HoF ballot for him.
