Pats or Genos

I've always found this debate interesting.
If I ever go to Philadelphia, I'm getting one of each.

I've been once. I ate at Pat's, mainly because the group I was in bum rushed Geno's, so I just went where the line was shorter.
It was good. It was expensive. I think you paid a lot for the privilege of saying you ate there. I'd eat there again today. If I never make it back, don't think I'll be out much.
Others in our group got cheesesteaks off street carts, and from what they said, theirs was just as good and about half the price.
I've got a friend from Philly that swears by somewhere else not too far away from the two landmark joints, but I can't think of the name.

My 12-year old had never had a cheesesteak, so a couple of Sundays ago, we got up and drove the 80 miles and split one from each place for breakfast. We both preferred Geno’s.

A Philly native has recommended John's Roast Pork to me. I've never been.

I recall liking Pat's more than Geno's, but it's been at least 10 years since I went.

Either is acceptable if you haven’t eaten in 72 hours. Otherwise, make the drive to Atlantic City and eat at the White House.

John's Roast Pork and the White House are each so far superior to Pat's and Geno's it is a crime to miss them if you are in the Philly area and feel like a sandwich.

edit to add: the White House is always my last stop on the way out of town after I go to AC for the fights. Sadly, fewer and fewer cards are being made there. Without a nationally prominent (and nostalgic) Philadelphia fighter, that swoon is likely to continue. Bernard Hopkins and the late Naazim Richardson kept Atlantic City in play long after big time boxing had narrowed itself in this country to New York, LA and Las Vegas.

I don't know many Philly natives (myself being one) who ever eat at either place. May be a great mythology, but the sandwiches themselves are nothing special.
