Tomlinson is apparently still freelancing for someone. I caught a peek of of the local TV sports not long ago and saw him in the background with his trusty tape recorder in the Don Hutson Center.

From what I hear, Zimanek was pissed at the move, as are several SE's in Gannett lately.
My last shop had eight full-timers in sports. That was five years ago.
After the latest round of layoffs, they have half that with more cuts likely.

Not a lot of guys in the field I'll stick up for on this board, but Brad's good people. I've met a lot of asshole SE's, and Brad's one of those guys who always returned a call even when he didn't have to.

Brad is good people. He's bar-none of the nicest SE's I've ever had. When the news came down about Dylan, Zimanek and Tomlinson were the last people to know.

The worst part of the job cut is that the P-C's Packers Preview and Packers Final (which were very good) will be almost entirely filled by P-G stuff.

Turns out Jason Wilde was contacted for the gig, but not everyone at the MJS is sold on him (including the two beat writers). Apparently there's a guy in Tacoma, I believe, who has also been contacted and is the front-runner, although not sure if he's interested.

Wilde wants to get out of the traveling grind, so I've heard, and has wanted to work for the MJS ... and this job would allow him to do both.

The NFL traveling grind? Yeah, seems rough.

Rosiak did Packers Plus in the past, not necessarily along the lines of what Cliff has been doing. But he does help out with Packers coverage in the offseason.

T.R. is a terrific college basketball writer, I think he's happy where he's at right now.

Wilde is good and can generate an amazing amount of copy.

If this is true, it's very unfortunate. I think the world of both Wilde's and McGinn's work. They have different styles, true, and perhaps therein lies the rub. But I think the MJS would be missing the boat if Wilde is interested in the position and they pass.

They'd be crazy not to hire Dylan. He's one of the hardest-working guys I've met in this business, and he's a hell of a good dude, too.

Jason Wilde is not the easiest personality to co-exist with. He's a great writer, but he rubs a lot of people the wrong way. And this comes from someone who didn't have any real problems with him.

So, given that the J-S guys have been competing with him for some time now, it's not completely surprising they might not wish to work alongside him.
