I’m doing some research on Otis when he was with the Norfolk Neptunes of the Continental football league.
I’m trying to find out the schools colors and the mascot or the logo that appear on the side of the helmets. I also am needing to know the helmet color and the number that Otis played with. The number that I’m in need of is 65. I know he wore number 60 during his 8 years with the Raiders. I would suppose the helmet would be one of the team’s colors. So far, that’s all I can find out about his football career. Now, Otis may have played with another team other than the Neptunes and Raiders.
I know he played high school in Columbus Georgia at Spencer high school. Their school colors were green and gold. So a burnt orange helmet would most likely not have been his high school helmet.
Any help would be much appreciated.
I found a helmet at a yard sale that is about the same color of the Cleveland Browns helmet, but not exactly. And it has a bulldog on each side that is a rectangle type shape sticker. The older gentleman that I purchased it from told me that Otis gave it to him. He said a few more things that I don’t quite remember to the fullest.
This helmet has a Otis Sistrunk signature on it and number 65.
But with me being a life long Raiders fan and born and raised in Oakland CA, in 1960 I have a few of Otis’ memorabilia that have coa’s
(certificate of authenticity) saying that the signature is authentic. These coa’s are third party with one being from JSA.
The signature on this old helmet is not the same as my authenticated ones. Now, I know signatures change as people age and also if they’re rushed to sign an item.
I’m just trying to find out if this helmet is authentic, or if the gentleman that sold it to me a few years back was just fibbing.
Is there anybody out there that can help me figure this mystery out, I’d be greatly appreciated.
Just so you know. I would never sell this helmet. I would just encase it and put it with my other items from when Otis was with, and helped my Oakland Raiders win super bowl XI

Sincerely
Harold

Thanks though much appreciated.
I’ll poat a picture of the helmet I have if this site allows pictures. I’m new here and it’s all new to me. Do you know if I can post the picture of the helmet ?
Thanks
Harold

I did watch that video and their helmets were white with a 3 prong pitchfork on them.
Can I post a picture on here ?

Can I post a pic? I don't have one. I searched and found that. did you try searching on google? try on duckduckgo, it's better.
it looked like he was No. 60 with Norfolk also. Maybe try to message the guy who wrote the feature on Sistrunk, he might have
contact info.

No, I have a picture of the helmet and was wondering if I could post it on here. I’m new here and don’t know my way around very well.

I'm not a mod, but I don't see why they would have a problem with it.

I also found that story on gooywhich is what led me to this site. I’ll ask the guy who wrote the story and see what he says.

What is the real story on the mars thing? Anyone know? I have heard that Karras intentionally made the joke and I have heard that it popped in his live when he saw US Mar. listed on otis’ bio, and then tried to play it off as thought out.

Former Oakland Raider Otis Sistrunk- From “The University Of Mars” 66 Today

When I think of Otis Sistrunk I think of a Monday Night Football game. Otis Sistrunk went from high school to the US Marines. He was one of the few to make the NFL without going to play college ball. One Monday Night Football game- Alex Karras made on of those ‘great MNF moments’ when the camera zoomed in on Otis Sistrunk sitting on the bench with his helmet off. Otis had his head shaved and steam was rising from his head. Karras suggested that the out of this world looking Sistrunk was from “The University of Mars”

pretty sure i have that football card, have to check attic next time at parents' house
