Otis Sistrunk

This is the helmet in question.
It doesn’t match any of my coa signatures, plus this name was signed with 2 t’s In Otis !
I really doubt Otis would sign his name with two t’s. (Ottis)
But I paid so little for this as the yard sale that anything’s possible.
I just can give up on it like rhe older gentleman that I purchased it from.
Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Don't work for Steiner Sports but that looks like the guy who sold the helmet signed it a few minutes before you bought it.
Wear that to a pickup game or maybe tailgating.

It was $5 so it’s not a huge loss. Was worth a try anyways

Yup that’s what I was thinking myself. But if it was his signature it would probably be worth a pretty penny now.
I’m not even sure if I’d even put it on eBay. I’m not one to burn people. Even if i listed it as “no returns” I’d have trouble sleeping at night knowing I burnt someone!!!!
I’ll just put it with my Raiders memorabilia and let people think it’s from a semi pro league.
I looked up the Continental football league and noticed that philly had a team called the bulldogs. I thought I had finally solved the mystery, but their bulldog looked nothing like this one.
We never know what we can discover at someone’s yard sale or a flea market.
Ahh well I hope he used that $5 for a good cause. LMAO

Never seen a team with a helmet decal like that, except maybe Pop Warner level. It looks like someone just got a decal and put it on
the helmet.

Norfolk newspapers aren't digitized for the years Sistrunk played for the Neptunes, at least I couldn't find anything. Newport News is digitized through newspapers.com, but all I found were a couple of mug shots. And, of course, everything was black and white back then.

Thanks Bud I appreciate your professionalism and not being comical in your reply. I paid $5 for the helmet and was just looking for someone that may have known about it. I figured it was a fraud, but hey we never know !
I just want to close this thread at this point. Any help of how to do that would be appreciated.
The comical replies have gotten out of hand and I just want to close his thread.

My dad told me a story from when he was kid that he saved his money for weeks to get a genuine autographed picture of Lassie. He was about five. It wasn’t until he was 15 that he realized for conned . You are in good company.

Former Oakland Raider Otis Sistrunk- From “The University Of Mars” 66 Today

When I think of Otis Sistrunk I think of a Monday Night Football game. Otis Sistrunk went from high school to the US Marines. He was one of the few to make the NFL without going to play college ball. One Monday Night Football game- Alex Karras made on of those ‘great MNF moments’ when the camera zoomed in on Otis Sistrunk sitting on the bench with his helmet off. Otis had his head shaved and steam was rising from his head. Karras suggested that the out of this world looking Sistrunk was from “The University of Mars”

This made me think of Eric Swann. I had to look up the name, but remembered a guy who played semi-pro ball in Lynn, MA going on to play for the Cardinals. Two time All-Pro.

Who are some others? Swann must be the most recent, correct?
