Pelosi, in fact, went on record saying that OBL's capture/death, at this stage, would change little, if anything -- and was promptly labeled treasonous by the Mighty Wurlitzer.

The thing most politically advantageous to Dems in the war on terror is that Bush and his gang of deep thinkers are running it. Of course, that's exactly why the master campaigners in the Democratic party are going to run primarily on the economy this fall.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 23 — A stark assessment of terrorism trends by American intelligence agencies has found that the American invasion and occupation of Iraq has helped spawn a new generation of Islamic radicalism and that the overall terrorist threat has grown since the Sept. 11 attacks.

The classified National Intelligence Estimate attributes a more direct role to the Iraq war in fueling radicalism than that presented either in recent White House documents or in a report released Wednesday by the House Intelligence Committee, according to several officials in Washington involved in preparing the assessment or who have read the final document.

The intelligence estimate, completed in April, is the first formal appraisal of global terrorism by United States intelligence agencies since the Iraq war began, and represents a consensus view of the 16 disparate spy services inside government. Titled “Trends in Global Terrorism: Implications for the United States,’’ it asserts that Islamic radicalism, rather than being in retreat, has metastasized and spread across the globe.

An opening section of the report, “Indicators of the Spread of the Global Jihadist Movement,” cites the Iraq war as a reason for the diffusion of jihad ideology.

But there's another part of me that wanted him to rot in a cell for the rest of his life like Moussaoui. Alive, but completely inert, eventually fading to a failed afterthought among his believers. Living death.

Dead, I fear that the message for the fundamentalists who followed wasn't that his immoral and evil mission failed, it's that he becomes a freaking martyr to that immoral and evil mission.

One can only hope, but it's unlikely anything other than an election day house cleaning would actually change it. The people who have and continue to support this administration constantly hand them a false sense blank check approval for any policy they desire, even if it's deletorious to the rest of the nation.

I've plugged this book for a month, but Lawrence Wright's book on al Qaeda --- The Looming Tower -- is really worth a read. In it, he makes a very compelling case that Zawahiri is the real brains of the operation and the OBL was more bankroll and charisma than operational commander.
And alley, I'm calling on your Naval expertise here -- I do not like this notion of putting battle groups off Iran all of a sudden. They wwouldn't be that dumb, would tey?

Osama: Well, yes. We had to go catch mountain goats for food and clothing, though it was CRAZY, for some reason, we did have some boxes of saltines left over from the terrorist training camp.
LK: Saltines, huh. Osama you're a man of discriminating tastes, don't you miss the Premium saltines in the tin can? Just rip them out of the package and drop them into your Progresso soup. Wheatsworth are wonderful and all, but nothing beats a fine saltine ... agree?
