This may be the best-conceived thread we've had on here. If ever you can't find help on restaurants for a city, try Restaurant Row and hit "Top 10 by City." Not only will it give you the city's 10 best options for dining, if it's a place worth anything, there will be PDFs of the restaurant menus, too.

Even if you're not going anywhere, check it out. It's fun to browse.

Anyone care to break down Des Moines and Omaha for me?

If you like Italian food, a couple of good places in Des Moines are Tumea and Sons (South side of town, doesn't look like much but the food is great) and the Latin King.

Covering the PCL?

My guess would be the MVC...

Can't help you too much with Des Moines. I'm not real knowledgeable of Omaha, either.

Omaha has its dangerous parts, though. For its size, Omaha seems to have a lot of crime.

Downtown isn't too bad. Omaha is the culture center of Nebraska -- whatever you think that means. So you should find something.

If all else fails, cross the river into Council Bluffs for the casinos.

omaha isn't so bad... i had a good time there

plus, get the whiskey filet at the granger -- didn't brush my teeth, 'cause i didn't want to lose the taste in my mouth

L'il Dooey's BBQ. Excellent.

Shottie, I LOVE sites like this; one note, though. I did a neighborhood search, and I guess it's next to impossible to keep these things completely up to date. One recommended restaurant hasn't been open for 3-4 years. So call before you head somewhere...

fort worth?

isn't there a bbq joint dan jenkins always writes about?

In his novels, I think all the places are fictional since they change with each book.

Among the names I can remember are:

Angelo's and Sammie's

Don't know about Sammie's, but Angelo's is the real deal. Not too far from TCU. The famous Tex-Mex place in town is Joe T. Garcia's. There are better places in town, but it's something of an institution.

Second the L'il Dooey's nomination, although you'll need to likely ask directions.

And if you have to make the God-forsaken drive between Starkpatch and Tuscaloosa, there is a Shell station at the main exit in Columbus that serves delicious and dirt cheap ice cream. I **** you not.

This big-city Yankee's venturing down to 'bama next month for a break between seasons. :o

I'm staying somewhere 'round Auburn, though I'm flying via Atlanta.

Is there anything I should see or do on my Southern weekend?

Any suggestions for good food in Pittsburgh?

Pittsburgh Fish Market in the Westin next to the convention center is highly recommended.

Going to Orlando next month for a long weekend of spring training.

Looking for suggestions for a good deal on a hotel, preferably near the Braves' complex.

Recent college grad, so cheapness is much more important than quality of hotel. But trying to avoid places with Crabs in the sheets (been down that road already in Daytona. Never again).

Suggestions for specific hotels or web search engines are greatly appreciated! PM me or reply to this thread.

Thanks a lot!

I should be able to offer you more than this since I lived in Pittsburgh for 18+ years but...

DeLuca's is great. Small joint in the Strip District, which is basically downtown. Assuming you're covering a pro or college game? you'll be close to there. Great homemade type breakfast any time of day...pretty cheap, too.

Kazansky's Deli. It's in the "Jewish" part of the 'burgh...used to be called "Rhoda's." The area is called Squirrel Hill, it's about 30 seconds off the sq. hill exit. Great sandwiches stacked thick, jewish feeling...I'm Jewish, so sue me, I like to eat kosher meat :)

Another good deli downtown is Smallman Street Deli. Owned by Jews but no kosher, I don't think. Great food, a little pricey for a sandwich but worth it. Awesome pickles and cookies.

Hope this helps, I know these aren't good recommendations for "formal" meals.

I may be enjoying a few days in Myrtle Beach, S.C in the coming week or two. What are some the must-see things in the region, cool day trips or things to do within city limits?

Also, any restaurant/local must-dos would be appreciated.

Also considering visiting Charleston and/or Wilmington, N.C., so suggestions there would be great. Is US 17 a decent drive in either direction?

Not much of a NASCAR fan but I liked the NASCAR Café at Myrtle Beach, couldn't tell you where it is but it's in the vicinity. There is also this great buffet with steak and lobster. It's like $20 a person but man it was worth every cent.

If you're into the college girls, check out the main stretch of town...hehe spring breaks are starting soon, they'll be running rampant :)

Anyone got any suggestions for Tulsa? I'm staying in the Southern Hills area of town next week.
