So The Queen just called.

Today is our 30th anniversary. That's right, been married longer than most of you have been alive. I've detailed the 22 on Friday, graduate on Saturday, married on Sunday weekend before.
Here's where I need help:
We celebrated Mother's Day on Sunday with our son (daughter working) and I gave her a Mother's Day and anniversary gift then. We did the birthday thing on Monday and she gave me a birthday and anniversary gift. We agreed those would be our celebrations, that the middle of the work week thing didn't work well and all so this would suffice. Fine by me.

This call just made it clear that it really isn't fine by her, even though it was HER idea.

****.

She's not at her school today, so the usual send-flowers-to-work and impress her co-workers stunt won't work.
I can't afford to go out and buy a bunch of pearls (yes, I checked. 30 is pearl).
The Nats are on TV and I don't want to go out to dinner again.

This is hopeless, isn't it?

What about an Eagles concert?

And yes, these things are hopeless. My wife's birthday is four days after Christmas. She suggested years ago that since I was a struggling journalist, we could celebrate both our birthdays towards the end of January. She forgot that it was her idea pretty quickly. Now, even as a struggling student, I can't get off the hook.

But anyway:

They play Charlottesvlle May 21.

True story.

We go out to dinner for our anniversary.

I make sure I sit where I have a straight-on view of the large screen TV so I can keep tabs on the Wild game.

OK, I won't be here long. 21 deserves most of the credit for the save - the wine is quite good - but I deserve a little for saving my own ass.
Never, ever underestimate the power of 30 long-stem red roses. Or the cost but that's another story.

"Of course this was planned," I said. "I couldn't very well send them to school when you weren't there. Now let's sip some wine and have a great dinner ****"

0-0 Nats-Mets in the first but I don't know that.

1.) Good thing you left the field and got a paying job.

2.) Your wife DOES know about this place. You do run the risk of her seeing this thread and still killing you.

Still, though, I'd say the storm has passed. Congrats to you. Now go recreate your wedding night, complete with the dinner at the Waffle House drive-thru!

And I, Rosie, say very nice call on the roses.

He really did have those planned all along, Mrs. Moddy.

(Think she'll buy it if she swings by?)

Some things are worth the cost. Nice save. Glad it worked out for you.

Congrats Moddy. Oh, and congrats on the anniversary save too.

My wife actually lets me sit and look at the TV when we go out. Maybe she just doesn't want to talk to me.

Attaboy, Moddy. You are one smoooove mutha-(shut your mouth!)
I'm just talkin' 'bout Moddy.
Moddy!
Damn right.
