Oh ***T, I need some quick help

My understanding here is that you're about to celebrate your 30th anniversary, you do an "official" celebration a few days before the event, and you take your wife at her word that nothing more is required on the actual day. Of the THIRTIETH anniversary?

Good God, man, I thought I was clueless. I would have at least gotten it in writing. (And then you could have put it in the picture frame!)

Just tell the Queen that cranberry called Duran Duran the new Beatles.

She won't be able to stop laughing long enough to be mad at you.

Don't forget to add that Honeymoon Suite is the new Triumph.

I was about to suggest you contact 21, the doyen of romance, but I see she has come to your rescue.

You do remember how to write?

Pretend it's a press release and lie like hell if you have to.

Can I make up quotes?
Not that I'd ever do that. Just asking.

Maybe I'll chill a bottle of wine and utter the magic words: "How 'bout soon as this game is over we make like the Nats and spend the rest of the summer in the cellar?"

Fixed.

Just a word of warning: Moddy isn't the only Nats fanboi looser around these parts...

Vaya con Dios, Moddy.

So The Queen just called.

Today is our 30th anniversary. That's right, been married longer than most of you have been alive. I've detailed the 22 on Friday, graduate on Saturday, married on Sunday weekend before.
Here's where I need help:
We celebrated Mother's Day on Sunday with our son (daughter working) and I gave her a Mother's Day and anniversary gift then. We did the birthday thing on Monday and she gave me a birthday and anniversary gift. We agreed those would be our celebrations, that the middle of the work week thing didn't work well and all so this would suffice. Fine by me.

This call just made it clear that it really isn't fine by her, even though it was HER idea.

****.

She's not at her school today, so the usual send-flowers-to-work and impress her co-workers stunt won't work.
I can't afford to go out and buy a bunch of pearls (yes, I checked. 30 is pearl).
The Nats are on TV and I don't want to go out to dinner again.

This is hopeless, isn't it?

This sets up the rest of the season nicely.

First of all I don't care how long you've been married, and by you I mean any guy who is reading this. When your wife says she doesn't want to do anything special for an anniversary that means SHE doesn't want to do anything special. YOU, on the other hand, have to do something to show you still care about her.

At this point I would suggest putting on your best suit and dropping some serious coin at her most expensive favorite restaurant.

Slip the waiter a $50 and ask him to give you running updates on the Nats loss that night.

Well, it was the hype at the time. Ask BYH. He would have been all over that show if he was allowed out past dark when he was 12.

I'd like to help, Moddy. But relationships and me are in different galaxies.

So anything I would try to say of significance should be ignored.

Nice dinner, a movie, and then, to borrow an SportsJournalists.com motto: "Bone it like you own it."

We do have to work tomorrow so can I just skip the first two?

Yes, there was a DD fever back then, I do recall. But a comparison to the Beatles?

Just goes to show that you'll say anything to get laid....then and 22 years later. ;D

It's true. All the girls in fifth and sixth grade loved Duran Duran. Had I strutted around sporting a Seven The Ragged Tiger tour T-shirt, they might have looked at me.
