Get creative with the pearl idea. Just because 30 is pearls doesn't mean it has to be a pearl necklace. There are all sorts of inexpensive gifts out there that would fit in with the pearl theme. I'm not in a store right this minute, so I'm just throwing ideas out there. How about a picture frame with pearl embellishments on it. Or a blouse that has decorative pearl buttons. You see where I'm going with this?

my sister-in-law gave me a necklace where you actually got an oyster and a little tool to pry it open, then you pulled out the pearl and inserted it in the clasped heart that went on the necklace ... definitely a memorable gift.

Heh-heh. He said "pearl necklace."

Beat me to it.

Go to a restaurant where you can see the Nats on TV and make sure you sit near there. Two birds with one stone.

... an autographed pic of UT coach Bruce Pearl? A Pearl Bailey CD? A Minnie Pearl hat with the price tag hanging off to one side?

Uh, yeah, I'm no help. Sorry, Moddy. Happy anniversary, tho. Gotta respect that longevity. Here's wishing you another 30 wonderful years, too (at least).

Our Olive Garden has DirecTV but I don't want to take this thread in the Olive Garden direction. I'm in enough trouble.

I know folks at Tennessee. A phone call from Bruce Pearl may get me off the hook.

Yeah, yeah. I admit I'm scrambling here.
It will come to me eventually and I'll be golden again.
I just don't move as well in my old age.

I bet you could get him to shave your wife's name in his back hair.

That's a sure winner.

Earl Monroe throwback?

Dude, the digital picture frame is a fine gift ... if you add the right pictures before you give it to her.

I've got my anniversary (just 22) on Sunday and I already got her mad by over-spending on Mother's Day (Bose Sound Dock), but I've got a good inexpensive idea.

Our first time out together (non-official date ) she happened to have an extra ticket to a Duran-Duran concert at the Hartford Civic Center. (I know I'll catch crap for this but it demonstrates just how much I was falling for her and, well, it was 1984 and Duran-Duran was like the new Beatles or something.) Anyway, I was never a big Duran-Duran fan but it turns out they had a live CD from this tour (Arena) that was remastered a few years ago. So I'll give her that for the anniversary, it will bring back memories for her and I'll get all sorts of sex. At least that's the plan.

Agreed. And you can snap the photos with your cell phone.

WILD BOYS! WILD BOYS!

I got that tape for Christmas in 1984. When I was 11.

Our first date was to see The Eagles but we re-lived that for our 25th.

If you **** this up, the next time you get any will be when Hell Freezes Over.

OK that was terrible. I'll roller skate off the floor and feel shame for a soda or two.

You can cook, right? Pick up a couple of good steaks, a bottle of great champagne, give her the frame, and write a stunning note about what the last 30 years have meant to you.

Actually, if you do a good job with the note, you can probably forego the steaks.

Mazel tov.

She already has the frame but the rest of it will work.

(and I assume "30 years I'll never get back" is not what you meant? OW, stop. That hurts. I WAS KIDDING)

You should repent to a man of the cloth.

No good advice, Moddy. I am sorry. I have had to flub my way through stuff with women, but not an anniversary.

Just wanted to say, if I ever think about getting married again, I am going to have the post that started this thread saved and I am going to read it to come to my senses.
