You may be asking yourself how do you do a Ryder Cup Pool. Well, here's how:

1. For each day, you pick four golfers. Two Europeans and two Americans. You score a point for each point they score (half points awarded for tied matches). For Saturday matches, you may list two alternates (one Euro, one US) in case someone in your foursome doesn't play in either.

2. You're allowed to play one European and one American twice during the Ryder Cup competition. This includes your alternates. See my team in the post below for an example.

3. Winner is the team that accrues the most points.

4. Tiebreaker -- in the event of a tie, I will compile the total match scores of your players, awarding (or subtracting) a point for each match difference. Ex: If a player wins a match 4 and 3 he gets 4 points. If he loses 1 up, he loses 1 point. The player with the most points wins. If there's still a tie, then there's a tie damnit.

5. Picks are due in by 3 a.m. ET Friday, Sept. 22

In case you need them, here are the rosters:

Eurpoeans

Darren Clarke
Paul Casey
Luke Donald
Sergio Garcia
Padraig Harrington
David Howell
Robert Karlsson
Paul McGinley
Colin Montgomerie
José Maria Olazábal
Henrik Stenson
Lee Westwood

Americans

Tiger Woods
Phil Mickelson
Jim Furyk
Chad Campbell
David Toms
Chris DiMarco
Vaughn Taylor
J.J. Henry

Friday's opening matches have been announced:

Match 1
3 a.m. ET
Tiger Woods/Jim Furyk v. Padraig Harrington/Colin Montgomerie

Match 2
3:15 a.m. ET
Stewart Cink/J.J. Henry v. Paul Casey/Robert Karlsson

Match 3
3:30 a.m. ET
David Toms/Brett Wetterich v. Sergio Garcia/Jose Maria Olazabal

Match 4
3:45 a.m. ET
Phil Mickelson/Chris DiMarco v. Darren Clarke/Lee Westwood

EDIT: Note the change in the US roster. It is now correct.

Not to be a pissant Freelance, but Two Gloves is right: Zach Johnson on the US team? The DSM Register sent one of their reporters to cover him this weekend at the Ryder Cup. Lehman, from what is being said out here is holding Johnson out, until the results of the Friday foursomes come out.

Re: Official SportsJournalists.com Ryder Cup Pool

Ouch.

I copied the teams from this page

http://www.rydercup.com/2006/usa/teaminfo/usa_team.html

Somehow, when I copied it, this is what I got

Team Member
Ryder Cup Points
Tiger Woods Tiger Woods 4,825.000
Phil Mickelson Phil Mickelson 2,474.375
Jim Furyk Jim Furyk 2,076.000
Chad Campbell Chad Campbell 1,129.602
David Toms David Toms 1,072.250
Chris DiMarco Chris DiMarco 830.000
Vaughn Taylor Vaughn Taylor 780.833
J.J. Henry J.J. Henry 778.750
Fred Funk Zach Johnson 756.477
Brett Wetterich Brett Wetterich 746.000
Stewart Cink Stewart Cink * 676.894
Scott Verplank Scott Verplank * 595.667

I just highlighted and deleted the center and right columns. I guess that's what I get for being lazy.

If anyone here wants to add Johnson to either their Saturday or Sunday lineups, you have until midnight ET tonight to do so.

Re: Official SportsJournalists.com Ryder Cup Pool

See the note about Zach Johnson in the post above. Feel free to change for either day, but please do so by midnight tonight.

Yeah, how about those final results? I went to bed Friday (OK, Saturday morning) sitting on the lead and didn't even realize it.
