Oakland news crew robbed, security guard shot while on assignment

A news crew for KPIX in Oakland was robbed of their gear Sunday while covering the city's teachers strike. An armed security guard escorting them exchanged gunfire with the suspects and was wounded in the leg. Police caught the suspects after a car chase.
Is that normal for TV crews to have security with them? And armed security at that?

It's normal in San Francisco now. A reporter friend of mine was robbed at gunpoint there a few years ago. She left the business.

I didn't realize this was KPIX. My wife's uncle is a camera man in the East Bay. Thank God it wasn't him in this. This definitely isn't the first time. Certain parts it just isn't safe to be that exposed.
