NHL or NBA playoffs?

I don’t know if this subject has been broached before but for me the Stanley Cup has it all over the NBA playoffs and I come from a town that had its share of champions in both sports, though not for a decade, when the Red Wings won their last Cup.
To me the intensity of the Stanley Cup trumps the NBA. Anyone truly can win in the NHL while, with rare exceptions, the favorites prevail in the NBA.
Of course the NBA gets more attention but with no dog in the fight, I opted for Lightning-Bruins over Warriors-Pelicans.

Used to love the Stanley Cup playoffs, but honestly I haven't watched a minute of a game all year. I used to be a Phoenix Coyotes season ticket holder and now I literally couldn't name one player on the roster. I never really came back after the 2004-2005 lockout.

So, yeah, NBA. Watched damn near every game of the postseason so far.

One of my rewards upon retiring was to NOT have to follow the NBA anymore. NHL all the way.

Even this year, with neither of my Chicago teams in the hunt, I'll watch NHL games where I really have no rooting interest and be entertained (like today's Boston-Tampa Bay series-clincher).

Other than the one night a week I'm on the sports desk at work, I haven't followed the 2018 NBA playoffs.

I literally can't remember the last time I watched hockey. I just don't give a ****. Yeah, I know, big, fast, exciting. Don't care.

I care marginally more about the NBA. I'll read the stories, and watch a game once in a while. Don't much care, enjoying the Rockets on occasion.

I've gotten older, I guess. When I was in my twenties I remember being outraged after reading Robert Heinlein's description of the World Series - "A commercially induced surrogate interest". I see a lot of truth in it now, though. I'm more selective with my TV time.

Really not sure you can say that about the NBA this year. Everyone expected another Cleveland-Golden State final at the beginning of the year and that might indeed happen, but the way it could come together is fairly wild. And I say that as someone who's not much of an NBA fan.

Vegas is keeping me very interested in the NHL playoffs. Incredible story.

I've gone through phases in my life where I got into the NHL. I do think hockey's a cool sport, and if I'd grown up Canuckistani, I'm sure it'd probably be my favorite sport.

But, NO, I've given up on the NHL in recent years, I'm purely an NBA guy from April to June nowadays. Simply don't have time to follow both, and hockey is the harder to follow. I don't know the sport as well, can't keep track of the players and events, and (as cliched as this gripe may be) my middle-aged woefully-messed-up eyes struggle mightily just to follow that damn puck--seems to me the first rule in constructing a spectator sport is that the central object should be easy for spectators to spectate--but that ain't much the case in hockey compared to our other favorite sports.

The early series in the NHL are far more unpredictable than the NBA. The difference between the top and bottom seeds is not like it is the NBA. Plus by the time the third and fourth rounds come along NHL players are completely beat up. The hockey’s better in the earlier rounds I think.

Doc would never talk about car washes. Hell, I'm fascinated when he drops in updates on the Cadler Cup playoffs while teams are changing up lines for a faceoff.

NHL for the reasons already stated. No one knows who will win each series, let alone the Cup.

LA won as an eight seed a few years back and a hot goalie can take a team on a deep run.

Plus they play every other night for the most part. The NBA opening round seems to take a month.

And NBA series are almost always easy to pick and the same group of teams are always in the finals.
