The New Yorkers can correct me if in wrong about this, but I believe that during the 1992-1993 NHL season, when the Rangers fell apart and Roger Neilson was canned, something similar happened with Mark Messier.

I think some editor brought his kid to work and the the kid added "Messier sucks" to the scoring summary. I want to say it was at The Daily News or Newsday.
