Walker being not really viewed as a gamer hurt him also and those who had him in fantasy leagues with weekly lineups. He always had minor injuries that kept him out a few games but usually was day to day and didn't go on the DL.

I think the sabermatic stats also show that Walker was an outstanding defensive player. According to his page on Baseball Reference he added 10-11 wins per season in the field.

Also, Jeter has had several seasons with higher WAR than some of the recent shorstops that won MVP.

Such as Larkin in 1995, Tejada in 2002, and Rollins in 2007. Those seasons would probably be 4th or 5th best in Jeter's career.

yes he was MVP because when he was out if the lineup it was clear how valuable he was. Walker was very good defensiveky but shouldn't have won a couple years when he did.
