They finished the game yesterday at a neutral site out in the county. Vigor took the snap from its own 4 and had the quarterback stand still untouched until the remaining five-plus minutes were drained off the clock.

Wondered that, too. Would a concession / forfeit by the trailing team have impacted the winner’s potential standing or seed in the playoffs because of a power rankings system?

I'd wager the state association told them they had to finish the game. That's when the coaches decided to run out the clock that way.

I keep picturing the climatic scene in Hooisers, when Jimmy Chitwood holds the ball at the top of the key. (Yes, I know it's based in reality, but too lazy to Google it today). Or Bad News Bears, when the pitcher holds the ball on the mound as Chico's Bail Bonds scores an inside-the-infield home run.
