MLB season delayed

If it’s Labor Day, MLB is going to miss a season

The big question for all sports’ players is how — or if — they will be paid. If they’re paid, will teams try to prorate salaries?

What about service time for baseball players? Does their clock stop, or are they still accruing time?

Reds were 70-50 after this win, finished 2 games out, only drew 8k for the game. Cincy never changes.

It was a Wednesday afternoon game. They played a game at Wrigley a week earlier with 3,767 in attendance.

Why the 64 year shaming?

Today MLB was showing a 1976 game between the Yankees and the Tigers - The Bird was on the mound. It looked great. The No Pepper sign on the backstop, the scruffy Tiger Stadium field, bat boys with "Bat Boy" on the back of their jerseys, old guys smoking stogies in the stands. Back with the Game of the Week on NBC was THE. GAME. OF. THE. WEEK.

Was this the June Monday night game that really made him famous? I remember watching that on my old B&W TV. One of my all-time favorite players, we were born exactly one day apart.

And was an ABC game with Cossel?

It was ABC Monday Night game of the week. Didn't you hear Cosell?

I was just watching it on TV at the gym, listening to podcasts while reading my New Yorker. I probably should have recognized the graphics though.

1:51. The network must have have been flipping out over lost revenue.

Didn't hear Cossel when I switched over. Warner Wolf on the PBP. Uecker on the field.

That's a lot of things to be doing at once. I see your humble New Yorker brag, too, but good restraint not telling us about the Airpods.

After losing 103 games in 1975 -- including 19 consecutive -- the mass hysteria surrounding the Bird in 1976 was such a welcome respite for the Tigers and Detroit. You couldn't replicate anything like that now. It just was a goofy kid with curly hair and incredible command on the mound (every pitch seemed to be right at the knees), out there prancing around the field and having the time of his life. What a joyful season in a dreadful decade for the team and the city.

Alas, fireworks last but a short while. And so it was with Mark Fidrych.

My grandfather died just before the 1976 season began. He never saw Fidrych pitch. But I appreciate whatever pull he might have had to get the Bird in a Tigers uniform.

no airpods. I try to distract myself as much as possible when I work out to help me forget I'm working out. Trying to keep up with the New Yorker (I'm six weeks behind) is the thing that gets me to the gym. Crazy to think they didn't have anything on it until their Feb. 10th issue. They're usually months ahead of the curve on stuff like this.
